-Maruti developed compact SUV with Toyota badging
-Likely to be second generation Vitara Brezza
Maruti Suzuki and Toyota have jointly announced that the Vitara Brezza compact SUV will be produced at Toyota India’s plant (outside Bengaluru) from 2022. This is expected to be the second generation Vitara Brezza and will be sold with Toyota badging.
This announcement succeeds the previous one - made in the latter half of 2018 by both Japanese automakers - with regard to Toyota selling a cross-badged version of Maruti’s successful compact SUV. We already know that the first cars to come out of this deal will be a cross badged version of the Baleno hatchback for Toyota and a Maruti Suzuki badged version of the Toyota Corolla.
Going ahead, this means that Suzuki is likely to setup dedicated assembly line for the Brezza at the Toyota plant. The arrival of the Toyota badged Brezza will be a chance for the Japanese automaker to tap into the volumes that Suzuki achieves through the sales of the Brezza. Toyota has also said that it will be exporting versions of the Ciaz, Ertiga, Baleno and Brezza to Africa as a part of the deal and it is more than likely that this is the Brezza that will be exported.
