The premium hatchback from Maruti Suzuki, the Baleno was recently spied testing with a mild-hybrid in Delhi, thereby indicating on its possible launch sometime soon. Based on what can be seen, the upcoming mild-hybrid version will be based on the recently introduced Baleno facelift. Reports indicate that the upcoming model will get a new 1.2-litre DualJet engine for the first time in India. At the time of launch, the mild-hybrid version is likely to be offered only in Delta and Zeta variants. Â Â
Codenamed K12C, the DualJet engine is believed to be the successor of the K12B engine that currently powers the Baleno, as well as the Swift and the Dzire in India. To begin with, the Dualjet version uses two fuel injectors instead of one fuel injector per cylinder. Also, instead of two intake ports sharing a single injector, each of the eight intake ports in the 16-valve engine will soon get its own injector, thereby resulting in better power and fuel efficiency figures over its predecessor.Â
The reports further claim that the new 1.2-litre DualJet engine will get a single battery Smart Hybrid system instead of the new dual-battery setup in the Ciaz 1.5-litre petrol variant. The new 1.2-litre DualJet engine will come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and produce marginally better power output figures than the current 83bhp/115Nm setup. More details about the vehicle will be known in the days to come.
