Maruti Suzuki has finally offered the automatic option for the top-spec variant of the premium hatchback, the Baleno. While the Baleno was being offered with a CVT automatic gearbox, it was restricted to the mid-variants and has now been extended to the top-spec Alpha trim at a price tag of Rs 8.34 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.
The Baleno prices begin at Rs 5.26 lakh for the entry-level Sigma 1.2-litre petrol engine going all the way to Rs 7.29 lakhs for the top-spec Alpha with manual transmission. The 1.2-litre 74bhp petrol engine also comes mated the CVT automatic transmission which is offered from the Delta trim and begins at Rs 7.03 lakh. At Rs 8.34 lakh, the Baleno Alpha AT is priced lower than the Honda Jazz V AT and the Hyundai Elite i20 AT despite the latter two not being top-spec trims.
The Baleno Alpha offers a touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and features like Mirror-link for smartphone connectivity through Bluetooth, power windows, climate control, steering mounted audio-controls amongst other features. It comes with daytime running lamps along with projector headlamps and 16” alloy wheels.
The Maruti Baleno is sold through the Nexa dealerships and is also available with the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The Baleno has been Maruti’s most successful product launch in the past few years with the premium hatchback accelerating past the Hyundai Elite i20 within a year of its launch, having sold over 2,00,000 units in less than two years of its launch in October 2015.
