Maruti Suzuki introduced a new 1.2-litre Dualjet Dual VVT petrol motor with SHVS on the Baleno premium hatchback. It makes Maruti Suzuki Baleno the only premium hatchback in its segment to be offered with four engine options. It seems to be an exciting move by Maruti Suzuki, as the company is expected to discontinue the diesel motor altogether by the end of this year. Here’s a quick specs-level comparison of Maruti Suzuki Baleno against its closest rivals.
The Baleno 1.2L Dualjet SHVS delivers a claimed fuel economy of 23.87 km/l, which is higher than any of its rivals in the segment. Available in the Delta and Zeta trims, the Baleno packs features like LED projector lights, touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, keyless start/ button start and much more.
Hyundai Elite i20, on the other hand, is the only hatchback in its segment to offer six airbags, rear ac vents, body claddings and automatic headlamps. It also gets features like automatic climate control, touchscreen infotainment system, and keyless start/ button start among others. Honda Jazz is the only car in the segment to offer adjustable rear seats. However, it misses out on an engine start/stop button.
Volkswagen Polo is the smallest and oldest car in the segment. It packs features like cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, rear AC vents, touchscreen display and automatic climate control system. However, it comes devoid of features like EBD and engine start/stop button.
