Maruti Suzuki recently launched the Alto 800 facelift starting at Rs 2.49 lakh. The carmaker's entry-level hatchback gets a slew of changes to the exterior and the interior as well. The changes are mainly to help this segment-leader put a dent on the sales of the Renault Kwid, Hyundai Eon and the upcoming Datsun Redi-GO. Take a look at these pictures of this refreshed Alto 800.
In terms of external appearance, Maruti Suzuki has given the fascia an "Aero Edge Design". The facelifted model's nose job looks much better than the previous model.
Upfront, the most prominent change is the revised bumper with fog lamps, which were missing on the earlier model. The 2016 Alto 800 gets a wide reworked grille instead of the earlier hexagonal one.
The headlamps have also been tweaked and get a new design for the cluster. These also house side indicators with an amber coloured lens.
The sides and the rear section of the car have not been tweaked at all. It is only the new black side moulding that sets the facelifted Alto apart from the earlier one.
The Alto 800 now also gets the co-driver side ORVM as standard even on the base variant. This was absent on the predecessor. Furthermore, key-less entry is also offered on the higher variant.
Apart from the minor cosmetic revisions, the carmaker has also updated the cabin of the car. It gets a new dark grey interior with new seats and door trim fabrics.
The other additions in the interior include bottle holders, co-driver side map pocket and an integrated headrest for the rear seat.
On the safety front, there is a child lock on higher variants. More importantly, the car gets an optional driver-side airbag for Rs 6,000 extra even on the base variant.
The 800cc three-cylinder petrol engine remains the same. However, engineers have tuned it to offer 24.7kmpl, nine per cent more than the older one. In the CNG mode it delivers 33.44km/kg.
Maruti Suzuki seems to have also intended to give the Alto a fresh look. And with this in mind, they must have chosen to offer the Alto in two new bright colours - Mojito Green and Cerulean Blue.
