Maruti Suzuki has acquired an additional 500 acres of land in Mandal Taluk of Ahmedabad district. This large piece of real estate is located less than 50 kilometers from the Hansalpur site where the Indo-Japanese automaker will build a new Rs 4000 crore manufacturing facility.
A Times of India report says that Maruti Suzuki was allotted 100 acres by the GIDC (Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation) and acquired the other 400 from farmers in the region. Eventually the land surrounding the acquired parcel is expected to become special investment region for auto ancillaries. This leads us to believe that MSIL is likely to setup a diesel engine plant on the land.
The Hansalpur plant is expected to be completed by 2016 and will have an annual capacity of 2.5 lakh units. Maruti Suzuki is expected to begin work on the Rs 4000 crore plant next year.
