Maruti Suzuki had a successful start to the year with impressive sale figures in the month of January. Selling 1,44,396 units last month, Maruti Suzuki sales went up by an impressive 27.1 per cent when compared to 1,13,606 units sold in January 2016. The cumulative figure comprises of 1,33,934 domestic sales and 10,462 exported units. The domestic sales grew by 25.9 per cent over the same time last year, while the export sales grew by 44.8 per cent as compared to January 2016.
Maruti Suzuki’s UV segment, which was almost nonexistent before, has been growing ten folds since the introduction of the Vitara Brezza. The manufacturer registered more than twice the sales in January as compared to last year in that segment. The compact SUV has garnered more than two lakh bookings already and was awarded the coveted 2017 ICOTY award as well. The only drop in sales in Maruti’s ledger was for the Dzire Tour, the production of which seized last year, as it sold 3,001 units in January, 15.3 per cent less than last year. The other vehicle to achieve good numbers was the D-segment Ciaz sedan which grew by 20.2 per cent thanks to the sales of 6,530 units as compared to 5,431 units in January 2017. There is also an increase of 35 per cent over last month when the manufacturer sold only 1,06,388 units owing to the year end and demonetization affects.
Maruti Suzuki launched the new Ignis in January. The manufacturer also has plans to introduce seven new models by 2019. The most anticipated model this year includes the Baleno RS, the new generation Swift which has been unveiled internationally and facelift of the S-Cross and the Ciaz, both of which will be taking the Nexa route.
