AMT option available for both 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre versions
The two-pedal option was launched in November 2015
Maruti is seeing an increase in demand for the two-pedal variants of the Wagon R in this financial year. It saw a 20 per cent growth in demand for the two-pedal option compared to the previous financial year. The growth in demand is across both engine options but with a higher concentration in the 1.0-litre variants. We had told you in a previous story that Maruti was seeing an 80:20 ratio in terms of demand for the 1.0-litre variants versus the 1.2-litre variants of the Wagon R.
The AMT, or AGS, as Maruti calls it, is only available in the VXi trim for the 1.0-litre engine variants but in the ZXi and ZXi+ trims for the 1.2-litre engined variants. In the former, the step up to the two-pedal option has come due to changes in traffic conditions in urban areas. There is a difference of just Rs. 45000 between the VXi MT and VXi AMT. The amount is slightly on the higher side but is still within limits in this part of the car market.
The Wagon R has now become a storied nameplate for the Indian automaker completing 25 years and 32 lakh units since its launch in late 1999. The current-generation car was launched in India in early 2019 and got an update in 2022. However, it got a two-pedal option for the first time in November 2015 and was the second car after the first-generation Celerio to get an AMT.
