Maruti has run out of stock of its popular models Swift and Dzire at its Manesar plant, where the two models are manufactured. Around 10,000 cars are in transit and on their way to dealers, but beyond that the company is not sure when production will resume. However, bookings will not be stopped despite the Swift having a booking order of around 55,000 units and the Dzire, 65,000 units.
Even if production were to resume today, it will take the company 4-6 months to clear the current backlog. Bookings haven't shut down - dealers are still accepting bookings for both models. There is no backlog for the other models produced at the Manesar plant, the SX4 and A-Star.
If you're in the waiting line for a Swift or Dzire, your waiting period, especially if you've booked a diesel variant, will keep increasing as long the lockout continues. The company says it is positive that a solution will be found soon and production will resume shortly.
