Back at the recently concluded 2016 Auto Expo event, Maruti had showcased the Ignis micro SUV in its concept form. Unique style and new age design has caught the fancy of guests attending the event. The one showcased at the event shared a lot of similarity to the one that is offered in the Japanese market. Just ahead of its expected debut in the Indian market during the festive season this year, test mule of the upcoming Ignis has been spotted in Delhi roads. The Ignis comes with a regular 5-seater capacity layout, but given its SUV-like stance, the vehicle could create a strong position for itself in comparison to its competitors like the Mahindra KUV100. The Maruti Ignis would be sold in India via the company’s premium dealership outlet Nexa.
The soon-to-launch Maruti Ignis shall be offered in petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol trim shall be powered by 1.2-litre K12B petrol engine that would be mated to 5-speed manual transmission option. Apart from manual the petrol trim could also be possibly offered with an optional CVT system. Whereas, the diesel trim shall be powered by 1.3-liter DDiS engine that shall be mated to 5-speed manual transmission. It is also likely that the Ignis in diesel could be offered with a SHVS technology. As for dimensions, the vehicle measures about in 3,700 mm in length, 1,660 mm wide and about 3,700 mm in length. The Ignis boasts of 180mm of ground clearance and 2,435 mm of ground clearance.
With due consideration to safety, the Maruti Ignis shall be offered with standard safety features like the driver and passenger airbags, and ABS with EBD system. As for the international markets, the vehicle is offered with 4-wheel drive (4WD) system, Dual Camera Breaking system (DCBS) along with 3 cameras located on rear, front and side. Moreover, the one serving the international market also gets features like lane management system and hill decent control. The vehicle claims to offer about 133 litres of boot space that is expandable to about 258 litres. For more space, fold the seats down and the storage capacity increases to a massive 415-litres. It is believed that the Maruti Ignis could be priced between Rs 4 – 6 lakh. Exact details on the features and pricing aspect shall be known in coming days.
