The Ciaz is one of Maruti’s most popular products selling upwards of 6000 units month after month and not without reason. It’s spacious, comfortable and not to mention quite fuel efficient in its diesel avatar. We recently wrote about Maruti planning to move the Ciaz into the Nexa brand from its regular dealerships once the facelifted version is launched. However we think just a facelift does not justify the shift into the more premium Nexa outlet. The Ciaz needs more.
The more could be in the form of a bigger engine. The Ciaz might just get the bigger and more powerful 1.6 MJD diesel engine that also does duty in the S-Cross. Now you might ask why, considering it’s already doing well with the 1.3 DDiS unit. Well for starters, the competition has always been more powerful than the Ciaz on both the petrol and the diesel front. So the Ciaz needs a powerful engine to keep up with the competition. Then there is the Nexa gambit. Moving the Ciaz to the premium Nexa brand will warrant more than just a facelift. The 1.6 engine along with the facelift, we feel justifies the shift considering the 1.6 variant will be sold at a premium price. The Ciaz is already tremendous value for money considering the amount of features it offers and with the bigger engine it will also be the most powerful car in its class with 118 Bhp and a massive 320 Nm of torque.
The entire range of Ciaz variants will be sold via Nexa outlets with a majority of the numbers coming from the smaller and cheaper 1.3 DDiS variant. The 1.6 DDiS 320 will pretty much serve as the Halo variant of the Ciaz. Expect the 1.6 to get other upgrades like LED DRL’s, body kit along with sportier alloys. Keep watching this space for more!
