According to a source, Maruti Suzuki has received 5,000 bookings for its new sedan – the Ciaz. It has been a couple of weeks since bookings commenced on September 3 and the numbers are impressive.
The Ciaz will be launched in four variants – Vxi, Vxi+, Zxi and Zxi+ in petrol and diesel. It will be powered by a 1.4-litre K-Series engine churning out 93bhp of maximum power and 130Nm of torque. The diesel power comes from the tried-and-tested 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel engine producing 90bhp and 200Nm of torque. Both the engines will be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, nothing is official, but we can expect an automatic version later.
The Ciaz looks very modern and contemporary and has been designed to please a wide range of audience. The deletion of the Lxi variants is a little surprising, however it seems like Maruti didn’t want to offer base variants. The top-end variants of the Ciaz will feature projector headlamps, keyless entry and start function, multi-function steering wheel, AC with climate control, rear AC vents, 16-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, ABS, EBD and dual airbags.
Maruti hasn’t been able to crack the sedan segment yet, except the Esteem none of its sedans really made a mark. The Ciaz is expected to turn the tables for the company and Maruti will be hoping that the Ciaz becomes successful. The Ciaz might be launched on October 10 and it seems like the company wants to build an inventory before its launch, in this case, about 10,000 units according to rumours.
