The Celerio has been a runaway success for Maruti, but the company is not resting on its laurels. A CNG variant of the model has already been introduced within six months of its launch. The next step ideally would be a diesel variant and there have been rumours of the car testing for a while. This time again a Celerio has been spotted, which the source claims is the top-end variant the ‘ZDI’.
It is no news that Maruti is about to launch its indigenously developed diesel engine soon and the first car to get this engine is most likely to be the Celerio. This engine will also be used in other Maruti products and also its first commercial vehicle.
This is the same source that had spied the diesel Celerio before in a different variant. As a result they say the engine noise has reduced from the last time they spotted the test mule. This could either be due to better insulation or different hardware to contain the noise.
These are still early days and the company has given no indications on the launch of the diesel engine yet. Although optimistically it would be a safe assumption that Maruti might launch the car during the festive season by the end of the year. But, there are chances of the diesel Celerio making it to the showrooms by early 2015 and instead they might launch the upcoming Ciaz this festive season.
