If a recent report by Team BHP is to be believed, Maruti Suzuki’s much awaited Celerio diesel could be on its way to the showrooms soon. Dealer dispatches of the hatchback have been reported to commence this month and the official launch is expected to take place by the end of May or early June.
The Celerio diesel will be the first vehicle to debut Maruti’s new 800cc oil burner that has been developed in-house by parent company Suzuki. While it will not look any different from the petrol version, the only design change will come in the form of the badges at the back and on the side which will say LDI/VDI/ZDI and DDiS respectively.
The 800cc diesel engine is expected to be a twin cylinder unit which is expected to produce around 50bhp and 150Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a five-speed manual which sends power to the front wheels. It is expected to be tuned for a high amount of efficiency and will have a lot of power concentrated in the low-end rather than mid-range. Going by Maruti’s claim, we expect fuel efficiency figures as much as 30kmpl for this new offering.
The Celerio diesel will be priced around Rs 60,000 to 80,000 more than the equivalent petrol model. when launched, it will compete with cars likes the Chevrolet Beat diesel and the Ford Figo diesel.
