- Is India’s only passenger vehicle manufacturer to attain this feat
- New Kharkhoda plant to begin operations in 2025
Maruti Suzuki announced a production milestone of two million vehicles in a calendar year for the first time in its history. This makes it the only OEM in India to achieve this milestone in passenger vehicle production. Additionally, it is also the first among Suzuki Motor Corporation’s global automobile manufacturing facilities to reach this landmark.
The celebratory unit to roll out of the brand’s facility in Manesar, Haryana, was an Ertiga. Of the two million vehicles, approximately 60 per cent were manufactured in Haryana and 40 per cent in Gujarat. Further, models including the Baleno, Fronx, Ertiga, WagonR, and the Brezza were the top five manufactured vehicles during the calendar year 2024.
Maruti currently operates three manufacturing facilities across the country, including two in Haryana (Gurgaon and Manesar) and one in Gujarat (Hansalpur). Together, these facilities have a combined annual production capability of 2.35 million units. The company plans to expand its annual production capacity to 4 million units and to aid this, it is establishing a new manufacturing facility in Kharkhoda, Haryana.
According to the brand, construction work at the Kharkhoda site is progressing as per plan and the first plant with an annual capacity of 2.50 lakh units is expected to be operational in 2025. Once fully operational, the Kharkhoda facility will have a planned capacity of 1 million units per year. Additionally, Maruti Suzuki is planning another facility with an annual capacity of 1 million units and is in the process of identifying a suitable location for the same.
