Hybrid cars are boring to drive and to look at, while we crave for one that can be quick and be at least good for a second glance it seems like Manhart Racing has an answer. The tuning company has released a couple of rendered images of its upcoming performance BMW i8. Details are scarce, but the two images reveal the car will get yellow brake calipers, yellow accents and lightweight alloy wheels.
Its performance is anybody’s guess, but it might retain the standard 1.5-litre TwinPower three-pot mill working in tandem with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. It puts out 356bhp in stock form and hits an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph and accelerates from standstill to 100kmph in 4.4 seconds. The best part is all this performance doesn’t tax the efficiency of the car, it still returns about 47kmpl which is the unique part about this car. It can also run about 37km on electricity alone.
We expect Manhart Racing to add a bit more to those performance figures without fiddling too much, however, surprises are always good. The BMW i8 is coming to India and there are rumours that it will reach our shores by year end.
