The Volkswagen Polo sedan (Vento in India) is set to become a CKD in the Malaysian market and will be assembled from completely knocked down kits (CKD) that will be imported from India. Currently, the car is exported as a completely built unit (CBU) from India to Malaysia.
The kits will be assembled by DRB-Hicom- a Malaysian firm specialized in Assembly operations. The company is hoping to generate 215 employment options in the company’s parts and components unit as well at the suppliers end.
The 1.6-litre MPI Polo sedan available there is priced steeply at RM99, 888(Rs 17.80 lakh). With the CKD route, the car’s price is expected to come down considerably.
