India’s leading utility vehicle maker Mahindra is continuously testing its upcoming compact offering, prototypes of which have been caught on test multiple times in the past. Codenamed U301, the vehicle has been spied yet again near the Chennai Bypass.
As before, the vehicle is covered in heavy camouflage, however, we have learned from previous spy pictures that it indeed takes heavy inspiration from Mahindra’s bigger XUV 500. Underneath the modern looking shell will be a new pair of petrol and diesel engines – 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel units mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
When launched, this new model will be slotted in between the Quanto and the Scorpio. By adding this new model to its line-up, Mahindra will also be looking to cash in on the rapidly expanding compact SUV segment in India.
