Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. participated in the FAME India Eco Drive 2015 with its fleet of electric vehicles powered by Reva. This event was held in New Delhi today on the occasion of World Environment day.
Mahindra lined up 10 Mahindra e2os, 4 electric Veritos and 1 electric Maxximo from its range of electric vehicles at the event. This was India's first ever mega green-vehicle rally that covered a distance of 21 kms from India Gate to IGI Airport Terminal 3.
Pravin Shah, President and Chief Executive (Automotive), Mahindra & Mahindra said, “At Mahindra, we are delighted to be part of the first ever mega green rally and the largest ever gathering of electric vehicles in the country. We are thankful to the Government of India for championing the cause of sustainable and emission-free mobility solutions for the future. Given the current era of rising concern about global warming and higher fossil fuel costs, this is indeed a drive for a greener and better tomorrow. Further, with the recently announced FAME scheme, the Government has already set in motion a conducive environment for the ownership and adoption of electric vehicles in the country. We at Mahindra are committed to the Future of Mobility."
The FAME India scheme, 'Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric vehicles in India', was formulated mainly with an intention to promote green vehicles in our country. This scheme is a part of the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan. The government is giving incentives for electric/hybrid three-wheelers and light commercial vehicles under this scheme.
In a bid to push sales of hybrid and electric vehicles, the Indian government had set aside a thousand crore to promote eco-friendly cars. Despite all these measures taken by the government there has been a delay in the announcement of subsidy policies. Nevertheless, with the announcement of incentives on hybrid and electric vehicles under the recently launched FAME India scheme, hybrid and electric vehicles have got cheaper in India.
We hope such periodic events create a buzz in the Indian market and more importantly awareness among Indian consumers. Once customers are convinced about the benefits of electric vehicles, eventually they will start adapting them.
