India’s leading SUV manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M Ltd.) sold 38,902 units overall in June 2014. The figure also includes commercial vehicles and the number of vehicles exported. The number is up by a little more than 2 per cent in comparison to the same period last year.
However, the cumulative sales of the passenger vehicle have seen a marginal decline. The company sold 16,780 units in the Passenger Vehicles segment (products include UVs and the Verito) as opposed to 17,232 units during June 2013. The company’s domestic sales stood at 36,457 units during June 2014, as against 36,207 units during June 2013 which again shows a marginal raise over the same period last year.
Commenting on the monthly performance, Pravin Shah, Chief Executive, Automotive Division & International Operations (AFS), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. said, "We have achieved a marginal growth in our sales during June 2014 and do hope that the auto industry will continue to stay in a positive zone. The recent announcement by the government of an extension in the lowering of excise duty will provide a fillip leading upto the festive season. At Mahindra, we are happy with our exports performance for the first quarter of FY 2015, which has grown by 38 per cent.”
The sales figures are very stable and the numbers of the passenger vehicles aren’t down by much as compared to the June 2013. Mahindra will soon launch the facelifted Scorpio and maybe the AMT equipped Quanto. The launch of these vehicles should lift up the sales and we should see a major difference in the number once the small crossover from the company hits the market in a few years time.
