The Mahindra XUV500 has earned another feather in its cap as it became the first premium SUV in India to cross the one lakh sales mark. This feat was achieved in less than three years of its launch making it one of the faster selling SUVs in India priced above Rs 10 lakh.
The XUV500 was launched in 2011 and was indigenously developed by the Mumbai-based manufacturer’s design house, Mahindra Research Valley (MRV), in Chennai. The XUV500 is the first Mahindra to be built on a monocoque frame and has been styled along the lines of ‘Cheetah’ design. The SUV has won quite a few accolades which include having topped a Customer Satisfaction study conducted by TNS Automotive India in the SUV segment in 2012.
Over the years, the Mahindra XUV500 has proven its mettle by winning rallies in the Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) and Dakshin Dare which are conducted at some of the toughest rally stages across the country.
Talking about the milestone, Pravin Shah, chief executive, automotive division and international operations (AFS), Mahindra said, “This is a proud moment for us, as our first global SUV, the XUV500 has reached a significant milestone of one lakh sales in just 35 months of its launch. We would like to thank our customers for their support that has enabled the brand to grow from strength to strength.”
With huge dimensions and a stylish design, the Mahindra XUV500 has massive road presence. The seven-seats and ample cabin space appease the Indian customers’ ‘bigger is better’ philosophy. Also it is decently equipped and ranks high on the value for money scale, all of which have helped Mahindra achieve consistent sales figures for the XUV500 over these years. Besides India, Mahindra also sells the XUV500 in Australia and South Africa and plans to extend its footprint into Europe, Chile and other international markets.
