The Mahindra XUV100 (S101) will get a 1.2-litre petrol engine. This announcement was made by Pawan Goenka, executive director, Mahindra & Mahindra, during the launch of the TUV300 in Pune today. The S101 is expected to be called the XUV100 and will be the first vehicle from the Mumbai-based manufacturer to be fitted with their homegrown engine.
The engine, jointly developed by Mahindra and SsangYong, is expected to be a three-pot mill. Going by its rivals in the market, the output for the engine will be in the region of 75bhp and around 110Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a five-speed manual as well as five-speed AMT. The diesel, on the other hand, will be the MHawk 80 mill from the TUV300 which produces 84bhp/230Nm with the manual and 81bhp/230Nm in the AMT guise.
We have seen the S101 through most of its testing cycles and various stages of development and believe that it will be a hatchback-based crossover (hatchover as we at CarWale like to term the body style). It is expected to be their entry into the highly competitive and volumes heavy B+ segment.
During the launch, Mr Goenka also confirmed that they were working on introducing petrol engines for the entire Mahindra portfolio over the next few years.
