Mahindra’s XUV100 (S101) was caught in a video shoot today with Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan in the driver’s seat. Clearly, Mahindra wants to have a sporty, young, dynamic image for its cheapest car that they will be selling, or may also be their most credible car which will also have SUV underpinnings.
Varun Dhawan, son of film director David Dhawan, studied business management in England, after which he worked as assistant director to Karan Johar for the Bollywood movie ‘My Name is Khan’.
Mahindra is expected to bring in the XUV100 with a monocoque structure and a choice of two engines which will most likely be a 1.2-litre petrol motor with 75bhp and 110Nm of torque and the 1.5-litre diesel engine from the TUV300 that puts out 84bhp and 230Nm of torque. Its rumoured that this car will sport a transverse engine layout and be equipped with FWD to send power to the wheels via a 5-speed gearbox. An AMT option is also in the works for the XUV100 and going by the size of the vehicle, it will be predominantly aimed at hatchback buyers.
