Mahindra is planning to up the luxury quotient of the XUV 500 by bringing in an update for the vehicle. A camouflaged test mule was spied testing on the outskirts of Chennai where the caris manufactured.
The test vehicle in a disguised avatar reveals some changes that we should see on the facelift. The area that is camouflaged hints that there will be some changes to the grille, a tweaked front bumper and a revised bonnet. The silhouette of the SUV remains the same but the vehicle will come equipped with re-styled five-spoke alloy wheels. The door handles now have chrome gtreatment. Although the tail lamps are the same, the rear cluster now gets spoilerintegrated LED stop lights. Other revisions at the back might include a revised grille over the registration plate.
The updates to the XUV 500 will extend over to the cabin as well. The luxury and plush factor will be increased with the use of better quality of materials. There might be revisions to the dashboard and Mahindra might equip the car with the latest features and technologies like that of the new Scorpio.
The facelifted XUV 500 is expected to be powered by the same 2.2-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine seen under the hood of the present vehicle and produces 140bhp of power. However there are speculations that Mahindra might bring in a new petrol engine. We can expect the arrival of an automatic gearbox in this variant. The transmission might be the same six-speed gearbox from the recently launched SsangYong Tivoli compact SUV.
Whether this is just a facelift of the XUV 500 or a major update, we can't really confirm as yet. But there is a probability that this might even be a hybrid version. The XUV 500 is doing well in terms of sales in the Indian market and the revised model will definitely up the sales of the Mahindra’s flagship SUV.
