Mahindra XUV 500 facelift launched at Rs 11.21 lakh

Mahindra & Mahindra has launched the facelifted XUV 500 for the Indian market at Rs 11.21 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The refreshed SUV gets cosmetic changes and some additional features in the cabin taking  it a notch higher than the current version.

The company's flagship offering now gets a chrome grille and new headlamps with integrated new S-shaped LED DRLs, similar to the new Scorpio’s LED DRLs. The front bumper's design is the same, but the fog lamps get chrome accents. The XUV 500 features a new pattern for the alloy wheels, while the rear gets a chrome registration plate enclosure.

There are changes to the cabin of the car as well, which include a new voice messaging system, a new electric sunroof, first-in-class logo projection lamps, passive keyless entry and button start, six-way adjustable driver seat, a seven-inch infotainment system and a rear parking camera with dynamic assist. The XUV's interior is now equipped with the latest features and technologies like in the new Scorpio.

The new XUV 500 will be powered by the same 2.2-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine seen under the hood of the present vehicle. This mill churns out 140bhp of power and comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The XUV 500 comes with a new brake energy regeneration system and the suspension set-up has been improved. The car comes equipped with Bosch's ESP 9 for roll-over mitigation. The fuel efficiency of the new vehicle has increased to 16kmpl from 15.1kmpl by the optimisation of M-hawk engine.

Apart from five existing colours there are two more colours – sunset orange and pearl white for the new XUV 500. This is the first major update Mahindra has brought to the XUV 500 since its launch in September 2011. The new upgrades will now make the SUV take the fight fiercely against the Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano in the Indian market.
