The Mahindra TUV300 compact SUV will be launched for the Indian market tomorrow. It is the new compact SUV from the Mumbai-based automaker and was first shown through concept sketches two months ago. Subsequently, it was spotted sans camouflage during the shoot of its TV commercial.
The TUV300 gets the well-known Mahindra boxy SUV appearance. The most noticeable element on the fascia is the latest version of their slatted grille. Also included in the looks are swept back headlamps, square bumper and square fog lamps.
A view of the side profile shows square(ish) flared wheel arches, rear sloping roofline and blacked-out B and D pillars to give the appearance of a floating roofline. Moving over to the rear, we can see the door-mounted spare tyre, step for ease of ingress and egress and minimalistic badging.
The cabin will get various elements from the Mahindra parts bin and so should look familiar when compared to other vehicles from the manufacturer. Standard features for the top-spec variant are expected to include climate control, touchscreen infotainment system, power windows, and leather upholstery and height adjustment for the driver’s seat.
On the engine front, the TUV300 will be powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder diesel engine that produces 80bhp and 230Nm of torque. Transmission options include a five-speed manual as well as a five-speed AMT sending power to the front wheels. The AMT is a first-in-segment and will make it the cheapest automatic SUV on sale in India. It is expected to be offered in seven variants - T4, T4+, T6, T6+, T6+ AMT , T8 and T8 AMT. We believe that an AWD variant of the T8 arrive at a later date.
The car is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 7.5 lakh to Rs 12 lakh and competes with the Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster and certain variants of the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross. We will be present at the launch function tomorrow and will bring you all the details of the vehicle as soon as they are revealed.
