Mahindra announced that the company will halt the production of utility vehicles for up to four days this month. These no production days will be observed across all its manufacturing plants due to the low demand of utility vehicles.
The company says they have taken this decision to align their production with the sales requirements. They also confirmed that this will not affect the availability of vehicles in the market as there is enough stock to cater to the market requirements. All of the manufacturing facilities at Nashik, Haridwar and Mahindra's wholly-owned subsidiary- Mahindra Vehicle Manufacturers Ltd plant at Chakan, will temporarily stop production.
Mahindra's utility vehicle sales fell by 6.91 per cent to 66,528 units in the April-July period this fiscal. Its production was also down by 7.09 per cent to 71,212 units. Presently, the compact SUV/crossover segment is doing pretty well in the Indian car market and despite Mahindra being the pioneer of this segment, the company is struggling to achieve good sales numbers. We hope this situation will change with the launch of the new Xylo and Scorpio.
