Mahindra and Mahindra will launch their fully electric e2o vehicle in the UK in the first quarter of 2016. The company earlier sold the Revai, dubbed as the G-Wiz, in the UK car market.
The e2o is a two-door, four-seater compact hatchback sold as a fully electric vehicle in the Indian market. The export model of the vehicle will be revamped a bit but sold with the Mahindra badge in the UK. The car is expected to get a power bump, higher top speed and a longer range, which means an enhanced battery life as well. The current version uses an electric motor that produces 26bhp of power and 54Nm of torque and runs about 100kms on a full charge.
Pawan Goenka, Mahindra’s executive director and the president of automotive and farm equipment sectors, said, "Just got the results of some extensive market research we carried out in the UK, and we are happy with what we see. We have had some very good discussions with the UK government about this. And we want to cater to the sub-£10,000 segment of the electric vehicle market."
The e2o is one of the products from Mahindra that offers zero emissions, is a practical car and takes up less space on the roads. The car is not sold in huge numbers in India only because electric cars do not have a great demand in our Indian car market as of yet. However, under the government's FAME initiative, electric cars and hybrid vehicles are now offered with incentives making them cheaper. So with these new incentives, a conducive environment is being prepared for the buying and adoption of these vehicles in our country. We hope this kicks off well and we get to see many new owners of these electric vehicles.
