Mahindra will offer the Ssangyong Rexton across India in phases. The premium SUV was launched in Mumbai and Delhi on October 17 and will now be rolled-out in the nine cities - Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Pune, Ludhiana, Patiala and Chandigarh on November 20.
Pravin Shah, chief executive, automotive division said, “For Mahindra, the launch of the Ssangyong Rexton last month marked a momentous occasion in our automotive journey. We are now extending the offering of this hi-end SUV to the discerning Indian consumer in seven other cities. I am sure that the Rexton with its perfect combination of indulgence, refinement, style and performance will carve a niche for itself with consumers within these new cities.”
The Rexton will be available in two variants, the RX5 and the RX7. The RX5 is the base model that comes with five-speed manual gearbox and Torque-on-demand all-wheel drive. The diesel engine displaces 2696cc from five cylinders and is turbocharged to generate 162bhp and 340Nm. The fuel efficiency of this verion is rated at 12.4kmpl on the ARAI test cycle.
The top-end RX7 has the same engine but developing 184bhp and 402Nm. The automatic gearbox also has five speeds like the manual, but there are buttons on the steering wheel to shift gears. The ARAI effecinecy of the RX7 is 11.18kmpl.
The Rexton is available in four paint shades: white, silver, black and purple. Mahindra has stated that the car will have badging that states "Ssangyong Rexton by Mahindra". The company is planning on selling 500 units a month for now.
