Mahindra has announced that it will launch the all-new Reva e2o once the 2013 union budget has been presented on February 28. Pawan Goenka, president of Mahindra & Mahindra’s Automotive and Farm Equipment Sectors and chairman of Ssangyong, said that they were waiting for clarity from the Central government on subsidies for electrical vehicles.
The Central government had recently withdrawn the subsidies that had been announced previously for electric vehicles. This is despite the fact that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had just recently unveiled the National Electric Mobility Misson 2020.
The Bengaluru based automaker said that it would not be able to price the car competitively if the subsidies are not announced and added that this was the only thing holding back the launch. Pawan said that if the subsidies were announced then Mahindra Reva would launch the car by the middle of March.
During the interview he also confirmed that the Verito CS would be launched in three months and for now would only be powered by the 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine that has been tuned to produce 65bhp and 160Nm of torque.
