Mahindra has announced that it will launch the Reva e20 electric car this month. The Bengaluru based EV maker had been waiting for the 2013 Union Budget to see if it were to get any subsidies on producing EVs or if the National Mission for Electrical and Hybrid Mobility, which had been terminated recently would be revived. While the mission has not been revived, the subsidy for importing critical components like lithium ion batteries will continue for this fiscal.
Speaking to the Economic Times, Chetan Maini, chief of technology, Mahindra Reva said that the company was looking forward to the subsidy but will now look at its internal strategy to launch the product in the market. He hoped that the electric vehicle policy, which was announced a few months ago, would be implemented soon.
The Mahindra Reva e2o (E-two-oh) is the new bigger electric car from Mahindra’s subsidiary. Styled by DC Designs, the E20 will have more space, longer range, better speed and more features than the current Revai. The NXR E20 can be recharged quickly and is an ideal for city commutes due to its low running costs. The starting price of this new electric car is expected to be around Rs 5 lakh.
