Mahindra has confirmed that it will launch the Quanto compact MUV in South Africa soon. The Indian SUV major already retails the Xylo, Scorpio and its pick-up truck variant, Genio and its flagship model the XUV500. The Quanto is a sub-four metre SUV and is based on the Ingenio platform that underpins the Xylo also.
The South Africa spec Quanto is exactly the same as the Indian model and will be powered by a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder diesel twin-turbo mill producing 100bhp and 240Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
It shares a common design with the Xylo both on the inside and outside and despite the compact dimensions, Mahindra have managed to fit two jump seats in the back making the Quanto also a seven-seater.
Since the South African car market is exactly the same as the Indian one, the Quanto should not have much difficulty in finding success in the South Africa market. Mahindra has not specified a launch date or a price for the Quanto.
