India’s leading utility vehicle manufacturer Mahindra are planning to launch four new products by 2016. Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) the company’s R&D centre is reportedly working on four new platforms.
Dr.Pawan Goenka executive director and president of Automotive & Farm Equipment sector claims the products will be ready by 2015 and be launched by 2016. The new portfolio will include a SUV, UV, Light and a small commercial vehicle. The products are under development and they will be launched in three to four years he claimed. These new products are vital to Mahindra and Mahindra to keep their leadership position cemented.
Currently MRV develops vehicles under 3.5 tonnes and anything above that happens in Pune. In the past models like the Verito, Vibe, Quanto and the XUV 500 were developed in MRV. The R&D centre is located in Maraimalai Nagar on the outskirts of Chennai; Mahindra claims the facility is one of the best in Asia.
Mahindra and Mahindra’s current product range has the Scorpio, Bolero, Thar, XUV 500, Xylo, Rexton, Quanto, Verito, Verito Vibe and the e20 EV.
