Mahindra will soon launch a cut-price as well as a premium variant of the XUV500 as a part of its strategy to introduce newer variants as well to refresh its existing models. This was confirmed by Pawan Goenka, president of farm equipment and automotive sectors in an interview with Livemint. The Mahindra XUV500 has been the Indian SUV makers golden egg and has managed to clock over well 40, 000 units since it was launched in 2011.
According to reports, the lower spec variant is likely to be offered with only basic features like a manual AC and a single-din music system. It is also is expected to get a low-cost dashboard, console as well as upholstery.
Going by the Mahindra nomenclature, it will mostly be called theW4 but will continue to be offered with the four-cylinder 2.2-litre diesel mill which produces 140bhp and 330Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the front-wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.
The top-end variant will most likely borrow a few components from Mahindra’s Korean subsidiary Ssangyong. It is expected to get more premium features, better upholstery and maybe a revised design for the dashboard and centre console. Mechanically though, it is expected to continue with the 2.2-litre diesel engine and same underpinnings.
The cut price XUV500 is expected to take on the Renault Duster but will undercut the Scorpio to a certain extent. The more premium car is expected to sit below the Rexton W. During the interview, Goenka also confirmed that they would revamp their entire line of vehicles by 2015.
