Mahindra & Mahindra will increase the Ssangyong Rexton production by 500 units per month to reduce the waiting period. The Rexton currently has a waiting period of around 2 months with about 1,300 pending bookings at the end of December.
M&M’s chief executive (automotive division), Pravin Shah told reporters, "The demand for SUVs like the Rexton, Quanto and XUV continues to be good. We have seen production going up... We increased Quanto production in December and see that happening in Q4 also so that the waiting period for the customers comes down”. Taling specifically about the Rexton, he said, “We expect the production to go up by at least 500 units in January. This will bring down the waiting period for the vehicle to an extent”.
The Rexton is first product from Mahindra’s Korean subsidiary Ssangyong. The premium utility vehicle competes with the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Chevrolet Captiva and others in the Indian market. Mahindra has also confirmed plans to launch the new Verito CS and Reva NXR in the current quarter.
