Mahindra Reva first unveiled the electric version of its Verito sedan at the 2012 Auto Expo. Two years later, the brand arrived with the car once again at the recently held 2014 Auto Expo, this time, with the facelifted version.
Mahindra Reva is expected to launch the Verito Electric in India this year, however, according to a report by Economic Times, the company will start exporting the model to Bhutan before its official launch in the domestic market.
The brand, in fact, will start exporting the Verito Electric to Bhutan starting September this year. The electric sedan will be positioned as an ideal taxi for Bhutan where the government has proposed plans to make the country an electric hotspot. "There is a market of 5,000 taxis to be looked at in Bhutan," a senior executive at Mahindra Reva has been reported saying. "Bhutan wants to go completely electric. They want to go (fossil) fuel-free," said the executive.
Chetan Maini, founder of Mahindra Reva, however, is skeptical about launching the Verito Electric in the Indian market as it would not be financially viable with the government not offering subsidies for EVs at the moment.
