- Five-door version of the Thar
- Gets more equipment
Mahindra and Mahindra is preparing for one of its most anticipated launches this year — the Thar Roxx. It is the five-door version of the existing three-door Thar and is expected to officially debut on 15 August, 2024. Here's all that we can expect from the SUV that was pitted to be called the new Armada.
Exterior
As compared to the three-door model, the Mahindra Thar Roxx gets updates to the front grille and bumper. However, the fascia is largely identical with a latched hood, circular headlamps and fog lamps, and a skid plate. The most prominent change on the side is the its length, with the Thar Roxx being longer by 300mm over the 3,985mm three-door Thar. The Roxx boasts a new platform, which is a lighter, more advanced version of the earlier platform used in the Scorpio N. It is reportedly 40kg lighter and will eventually contribute to better performance and efficiency. Notably, the new Roxx shares several components with the Scorpio N, one of it being the multi-link rear suspension system equipped with Frequency Dependent Damping technology. Up front, it sports an independent double wishbone setup, enhancing its off-road capabilities.
Interior
We have seen many teasers now hinting that the Thar Roxx will be equipped with several advanced features. The ones confirmed include a new fully digital instrument cluster and a large touchscreen infotainment system in the centre. The latter will be paired with a Harman Kardon audio system. The SUV will also feature a powered driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, 360-degree camera, wireless charger, and an auto-dimming IRVM. The lower variants will get a single-pane sunroof, while the top-spec models will boast a panoramic sunroof and Level 2 ADAS.
Powertrain options
The new Mahindra Thar Roxx will be offered with the same set of engines as the standard model. These include a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.
Launch date, expected price, and competition
Expected to be officially launched in India in a couple of days, the new Thar Roxx RWD and 4X4 variants could be priced from Rs. 15 lakh to Rs. 25 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. Upon its launch, the off-roader will compete with the Force Gurkha five-door and the Maruti Suzuki Jimny. Bookings are expected to commence directly after its official launch and price announcement.
