Mahindra & Mahindra launched the premium SUV the Rexton in Ahmedabad yesterday. Built by their Korean subsidiary Ssangyong, the Rexton comes to India as a CKD and has some level of localization. The SUV was launched in Mumbai and Delhi in October and is now being made available across India in phases.
The Ssangyong Rexton is available in two variants – the RX5 and the RX7. The base version comes with five-speed manual and Torque-on-demand all-wheel-drive. It is powered by 2.7-litre five-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine developing 162bhp and 340Nm of torque.
The top-end RX7 is powered by the same Mercedes derived engine, but is tuned to produce 184bhp and 402Nm. It has five-speed automatic, with button-shifts on the steering wheel. The ARAI effecinecy of the RX7 is 11.18kmpl.
The Rexton is available in four paint shades: white, silver, black and purple. Mahindra has stated that the car will have badging that states "Ssangyong Rexton by Mahindra". The company is planning on selling 500 units a month for now.
The company confirmed that they have delivered 400 units of Rexton since November and there are 1200 pending orders across nine cities. Mahindra has recently ramped up the operations to reduce waiting period.
