Mahindra Ssangyong has launched its mid-sized SUV the Rexton W in South Africa. Unveiled at the 2012 Busan Motor Show, this third-generation model of the SUV will join the Korando and Actyon Sport double cab pickup to be a part of the Indo-Korean manufacturer’s line up for the African nation.
The standard five-seater model costs 349995 Rand (Rs 22.75 lakh) while the luxury seven-seater variant will retail for 389995 Rand (Rs 25.35 lakh). Both models of the Rexton W will be on sale across all of Mahindra South Africa’s 22 dealerships.
Speaking on the launch, Ashok Thakur, CEO of Mahindra South Africa said “The addition of the Rexton W to the existing SsangYong line-up in South Africa, being the Korando C-segment SUV and the Actyon Sport double cab pickup, not only broadens our potential customer base, but also contributes to dealer viability and overall brand awareness.”
The SUV in both variants will be powered by a 2.7 litre turbo diesel engine which will churn out 162bhp and 340nm of torque. Like most Korean vehicles this SUV is also feature loaded with (Electronic Stability Program), ARP (Active Roll over Protection), UWS (Ultrasonic Warning System), Cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity and Rain-sensing wipers.
The Rexton W will be also be launched in India soon to compete with the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Mitsubishi Pajero on size, but might be priced more competitively to give Ssangyong better head start. We expect this model to be made available here at the start of 2013.
