Mahindra has launched the limited edition of the Scorpio again. The SUV manufacturer had introduced this special edition in October last year. This model gets a few changes to the exteriors and interiors to distinguish it from the outgoing version and will be limited to 500 units.
The exclusive trim will be available in pearl finish and will sport the chequered racing flag as decals on the sides and the front bumper. The alloys are standard and will be chrome embellished. Though the changes to the exteriors might be minimal, the car is now packed with additional features.
The cabin now boasts of European leather seats in a shade of tan and beige. The steering wheel, gear shift knob and lever are leather wrapped while the centre console gets a high-gloss wood finish. The company has equipped this variant with a roof-mounted DVD player with integrated nine-inch display. On the safety front, the special edition will get the standard dual front SRS airbags.
There are no changes to the power train of this Scorpio and it will continue to be powered by the 2.2-litre four-cylinder mHawk diesel engine that produces 120bhp of power and 290Nm of torque. This mill comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
The special edition Scorpio was launched at a price of Rs 11.88 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). We still haven’t got any confirmation from Mahindra if this version will be made available in the 4X4 variant. If they do, this will make it a value-for-money product when compared to the 110PS Duster with the options provided. Otherwise, the 85PS Renault Duster Option Pack and Tata Safari appear to be better value propositions. Another factor is the impending facelift of the Scorpio: will customers want to purchase a vehicle that is scheduled for a major revision soon?
