Mahindra first launched the Scorpio in India in 2002. Back then, the first generation model changed the fortunes of the company as it managed to gain immense popularity among the buyers looking for a practical SUV with a lot of street presence.
Over the years, the vehicle Scorpio has evolved in many ways and till date, it continues to do well in the market. It is, however, due for a complete makeover as competition has grown significantly in the segment with the arrival of new products like the Renault Duster and the Nissan Terrano. Well aware of this situation, Mahindra is currently busy developing the new Scorpio facelift which is expected to be launched around this festive season. According to Economic Times, Mahindra is expected to launch the new Scorpio in October this year.
The report also states that Mahindra has made some major improvements in areas like suspension and interiors, suggesting that the company is going all out to make the Scorpio more appealing to a wider range of buyers including D-segment car buyers.
Underneath the revised exteriors, the Scorpio facelift is expected to continue with the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine that produces 120bhp of power and 290Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox could be on offer.
Prices for the Scorpio will be slightly on a higher side compared to the outgoing model when Mahindra launches it around this festive season. The heavily revised model will compete with the Tata Safari Storme, Renault Duster and the Nissan Terrano.
