This month the Indian auto industry has seen a number of launches and in this last week there are more cars coming your way. One among them is the Mahindra Scorpio facelift which will be launched on September 25. The company, like the other manufacturers, hopes that this festive season it achieves bonanza sales. Bookings for the car have already begun for a sum Rs 20,000.
In another firsts of sorts Snapdeal on Thursday started accepting pre-bookings for the SUV Scorpio, making it the first time automobile bookings have debuted on a third-party electronic marketplace in India. After pre-booking the new Scorpio on the Snapdeal website by paying Rs 20,000, customers can go to a dealer to make the full payment and take delivery.
Judging by their recently released teaser, this facelifted Scorpio is bound to appeal to the youngsters and the adventure lovers. It has been teased with the tagline which says something to this effect “Not just a new car. It’s a new breed”. The teaser image clearly shows that the new Scorpio will get LED DRLs integrated into the headlamp cluster. The design of the bumpers has been slightly changed while the alloy wheels get a new design. This design looks better than the ones the top-end variant of the present Scorpio has. At the back of the car, tail lamps will be changed to LED ones, nevertheless continuing with the Christmas tree arrangement.
There has been a revamp in the interior sections of the car and the one that is evident is the XUV500-style steering wheel. For the engines, speculations are on that mostly the previous mills will be carried over, but there may be an addition as well.
The Scorpio is a popular SUV in India with a fan base in the urban and rural markets. Its current sales average is around 4,000 units a month which is expected to go up after the new model is launched. Scorpio has never had to really bother about competition in its segment and a facelifted car was not absolutely necessary. But with this, Mahindra has brought for its customers, a bigger, better and bolder Scorpio. If one talks of rivalry then the only threat it could face is from the Renault Duster and the Tata Safari Storme.
