It is raining cats and dogs in the Mumbai-Pune region but these torrential rains don’t seem to hamper Mahindra's plans of testing the facelifted Scorpio. In fact, the company seems to have taken up the treacherous weather as a ground for more exhaustive testing of the 2014 version of the Scorpio. Another test vehicle was snapped doing high speeds on the Mumbai-Pune expressway.
So what is new about this Scorpio when the proportions seem to be the same as the outgoing model? This is a facelifted model that gets mostly all cosmetic upgrades to the exteriors and interiors as well. Adorning the fascia will be a revised grille, restyled bumpers and the main highlight- projector headlamps. The side profile seems to be the same with a slight change to the footboard keeping the entire silhouette identical. The taillamps are new LED ones and though Mahindra has maintained the Christmas-tree arrangement, the illumination of the light is good enough for visibility in bad weather.
The cabin of the refreshed Scorpio will get a completely new dashboard and other instruments. The instrument cluster is funky which will incorporate both the analog as well as digital display. While the features list is expected to get longer, the steering wheel is directly borrowed from the XUV500. The quality of the materials used inside and overall fit and finish is expected to be improved over the current variant.
The 2014 variant of the Mahindra Scorpio is expected to be powered by the same 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine that powers the present version. Currently this mill churns out 120bhp of power and 290Nm of torque which the company might enhance with minor improvements to the motor. There might be more tweaks to improve handling and stability. The five-speed manual/six-speed AT transmission will be carried over.
The Mahindra Scorpio is selling in decent numbers and has aged well in the Indian market. The revamped Scorpio is expected to create a huge excitement when launched during the festive season this year.
