Mahindra is testing the automatic variant of the Scorpio and a test mule of the same was spotted on test in Maharashtra. The new variant might be launched in April or May this year.
The test vehicle was spied in an undisguised avatar and had an 'Automatic' badging at the back of the car. There will be no cosmetic changes to this vehicle apart from this badging at the back and sides. At present, the line-up of the refreshed Scorpio includes variants like S2, S4, S6, S6+, S8 and S10. We can expect this automatic version to be offered only in the top-end versions.
The current models of the Scorpio are powered by the 2.2-litre mHawk engine that produces 120bhp of power and 280Nm of torque. The base variant of the Mahindra Scorpio is powered by the 75bhp 2.5-litre four-cylinder m2DiCr diesel mill. This is not likely to come paired to the automatic gearbox. However, the top-of-the-line variants will come equipped with the automatic transmission.
Mahindra launched the facelifted Scorpio in September last year, but the automatic version’s launch is still impending. With the test mule doing rounds quite often these days, we can expect the manufacturer to launch this model soon. The Tata Safari Storme, which is the Scorpio's immediate competitor, doesn't come equipped with an automatic gearbox. So with the launch of the automatic variant of the Scorpio, Mahindra will have an upper hand with the updated SUV that has already earned itself an incredible response in the Indian market ever since its launch.
