- Ssangyong Tivoli based SUV will be feature loaded
- Name and design details to be unveiled on 1 Dec 2018
With the flagship Alturas SUV just launched, Mahindra is already gearing up for another round of assault, but this time in the extremely popular compact SUV segment. The much awaited S201 is finally ready for launch with Mahindra all set to announce the name and design details on 1 December, 2018.
Based on the Ssyangyong Tivoli, the S201 will be pegged at the upper end of the compact SUV segment rivalling top end variants of the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the likes. It is expected to get quite a few first-in-segment features apart from boasting a long a feature list like a sunroof, cruise control and projector headlamps.
As far as the powertrain of the five-seater is concerned, the S201 is most likely to get both petrol and diesel engines. We expect the same 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine from the Marazzo which produces 121bhp/300Nm to be joined by a 1.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. Both the petrol and diesel engines of the Mahindra S201 are expected to offer manual and AMT transmission options.
We expect the car to be launched in early 2019. Prices are expected to start at around Rs. 7.5 lakh and the S201 will go up straight against the likes of the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the Ford EcoSport.
Edit: After the postponement, Mahindra will be officially announcing the name of the S201 on 19 December
