After making dozens of appearances on the internet with heavy camouflage, Mahindra’s S101 has been spotted undisguised. The much awaited compact model was caught on camera during what looks like a commercial shoot. In fact, the commercial was being shot in Carter Road, South Mumbai.
Finished in bright orange, this particular example looks rather funky with its stylish tail lights, curved rear glass and multi-spoke alloys. Despite its compact footprint, the S101 looks fairly rugged, with its tiny rear overhang, subtle roof rails and plastic cladding. This is also the first time that we are seeing the unique positioning of the vertical rear door handles, just like in the Chevrolet Beat.
For the drivetrain, the S101 will get a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with around 75bhp and 110Nm of torque. Gearbox options are likely to include a 5-speed manual as well as an AMT. The diesel, on the other hand, will be the mHawk 80 unit from the TUV300 which develops 84bhp/230Nm.
The S101 will be sold as the XUV100 when it goes on sale early next year. When launched, it will compete with other rugged looking models like the Toyota Etios Cross, Hyundai i20 Active and the Volkswagen Cross Polo.
