There has been a slew of ambiguous spy shots of the Mahindra S101 on the internet. Mahindra has finally revealed an official teaser image of the S101, there are rumours of it being called the KUV100 which will be derived from their term ‘Kompact’, or it could be called XUV100 as that is Mahindra’s nomenclature for their monocoque SUVs. The rumours should end on 18 December when the name will be officially announced.
The teaser image uncovers features like DRLs (Daytime Running Lights) below the headlights, chrome accents around the fog-lights, ribbed roof adding to the structural strength, pseudo bash plate accenting the front bumper, honeycomb mesh grille and muscular arches similar to that of the XUV500.
The sub-4 metre length of the S101 will help it avail of the small-car tax benefits, which in turn means Mahindra will price it competitively. For the drivetrain, the S101 will get a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with around 75bhp and 110Nm of torque. Gearbox options are likely to include a 5-speed manual as well as an AMT. The diesel, on the other hand, will be the mHawk 80 unit from the TUV300 which develops 84bhp/230Nm.
