A near production ready Mahindra S101 has been spotted testing outside Nashik by CarWale fan Anant Bhatia. Unlike earlier pictures, this one appears to have complete bumpers, tail lamps, a rear wiper and even a small spoiler.
Spyshots reveal that the Mahindra S101 will get a two-box design with a slightly higher than normal ground clearance. The appearance suggests conventional hatchback traits like a rear sloping roofline and thick B-pillars, while the rear hatch will have a small opening at the base due to a slight flare in the rear wheel arches.
It is also expected to be quite spacious and will be built on a new monocoque platform that will underpin a variety of future Mahindra models.
We have few shots of the cabin but can safely speculate that it will be very similar to what Mahindra has on offer today in most of its vehicles. This includes the feature list, overall design and safety equipment.
On the engine front, the S101 is expected to be offered with at least two new petrol engines (being developed in- house) and one diesel mill which may come from the new MHawk 80 engine family.
These pictures suggest Mahindra is taking a major step by creating a hatchback of this nature. It is expected to be their warrior for the highly popular and competitive B-segment hatch territory. Here, it will compete with cars like the Hyundai Grand i10, Maruti Suzuki Swift and the soon-to-be launched Ford Figo hatchback.
