The Mahindra S-101 has been spied testing outside Chennai by the crew at Motor Vikatan. While that is not something new as the compact SUV has already been spotted on multiple occasions by the same group across Tamil Nadu, these set of spy pictures reveal details of the front fascia of the upcoming EcoSport, Renault Duster and Hyundai compact SUV rival.Â
The Mahindra S-101 gets double air dams split by a slot for the number plate. Mahindra has also installed single piece mesh grille with a circular spot in the middle where the Indian SUV major’s logo will be placed. It gets headlights shaped similar to the ones found on the XUV500 but in this case are single units instead of double barrels found on the former.
The pictures also show the S -101 towing a Genio pickup truck giving us an idea of the relative height of the vehicle as compared to the Genio (a derivate of the Scorpio). It also begs us to ask the question-what is the engine that is powering the S-101 to give it the ability to tow a pickup truck weighing 1.8 tonnes? We believe that this one of the new engines and gearboxes (most likely a diesel) being jointly developed by Mahindra and Ssangyong for their future range.Â
We are likely to see the S-101 sometime next year and it will be first vehicle to be launched that has been developed by both Mahindra and Ssangyong.Â
