We hear of many crashes across the country almost every day, mostly thanks to our pathetic traffic sense and complete disregard for rules. However, things get stranger when you hear of a test vehicle crashing while going testing. This time the victim is the Mahindra S 101 compact SUV which is believed to have veered off the road and made contact with a signboard in the Nilgiris Hills in Tamil Nadu.
Autocar India, who managed to get pictures of the crashed crossover, suggests that the damage to the vehicle is minimal as it was pretty bare but laden to the brim with testing equipment. There is also no word on what happened to the occupants of the vehicle.
The Mahindra S 101 has been spotted testing across various locations in Tamil Nadu over the last one year and for most of the time since the vehicle was heavily camouflaged, we have not been able to get many details on it.
Autocar themselves managed to render the vehicle (based on the test mule) to make it look like a smaller version of the XUV500 but this is just a rendering and we will have to wait for the concept car to know the real design. It is expected to be powered by a new set of four-cylinder engines and six-speed gearboxes that Mahindra is believed to be developing in conjunction with Ssangyong, its Korean subsidiary.
Reports suggest that this is a common pattern among Mahindra test cars as the Xylo, Quanto and even the XUV500 have all taken ‘off-road excurisons’ during their test phases.
